About us

MoCo Development Ltd, based at Alderfen Marshes on the Norfolk Broads, has been run by husband and wife team Stephen and Mary Ferrey, since setting up in 2009. Initially specialising in experiential training, coaching and team development, we have evolved to include wild-camping, canoe hire, canoe trails and other rural pursuits well suited to the Norfolk Broads environment.

Stephen has 25 years’ experience in the field of managing teams and working with individuals, to help them achieve their outcomes. With a working knowledge of running teams in the great outdoors, while working in aquaculture, fisheries and conservation, to managing teams in an office environment, within the insurance and finance sectors, Stephen has a practical insight into both environments.

With a degree in Fisheries Management, an MSc in Business Management, as well as qualifications in Teaching and Coaching, Stephen has come full circle, managing Alderfen Marshes as a nature reserve, wild camping area, canoe trail and team training environment.

At Alderfen Marshes Stephen feels that visitors have the best of both worlds, giving them the opportunity to enjoy outdoor activities and link these to practical applications relevant to their own roles.

Mary has worked in various sectors from hospitality to food and education, where she has gained experience of teamwork, organisational skills and customer care. With a working knowledge of running a small business, Mary focuses on the ‘behind the scenes’ activities to keep things running smoothly, as well as being ‘front of house’, on the programmes run at Alderfen Marshes and in other venues.

With a degree in European Regional Development and an MSc in Marketing and Business Management, Mary combines the theories covered in each with the practice of running a business in the training and leisure sectors.

Outside MoCo, Stephen and Mary enjoy time with their three children, their home environment, raising livestock and the beauty of the Norfolk Broads.

As well as Stephen and Mary, MoCo are joined by an experienced and competent group of associates who assist in the delivery of many programmes. These associates, while also ‘doing their own thing’, have loyally contributed to the success and growth of MoCo over the years.

What is MoCo?  …Moco (n): - The moment when everything becomes clear.

At MoCo our philosophy is simple … “lasting change starts with a single moment”.

We use this philosophy in all our activities, generating moments which initiate individual effectiveness, team development and personal well-being.

Our programmes utilise the natural environment, getting away from daily distractions to reflect, relax and recharge.

The MoCo Moments model, as shown, identifies specific moments - each of which can provide clarity and set the scene for lasting change.

Our approach ranges through wild-camping on Alderfen Marshes, interactive team challenges, paddling a canoe through remote areas of the Norfolk Broads, training programmes in the Green Room and use of experiential activities for team development.

“MOCO offer a number of well-rounded and engaging courses, including “Communication Pitfalls” and Goal Alignment in Teams”.

These allow our staff to communicate effectively with one another and across departments, to ensure that our firms’ goals are achieved.”

We recently requested some assertiveness training for some new team leaders which MoCo liaised with us so that it was a little more bespoke for us and involved matrix management, dealing with people and new roles. It was a great session which got fantastic reviews from those that attended. I would highly recommended MoCo, if you want a hands on training approach with good results.
